National Youth Arts Awards - 2019
Hello RO Drama Families!
I am so proud to announce that ROMS drama has taken 8 national titles in the National Youth Arts awards, as well as 28 additional nominations! We are so happy that our 4 productions from this last year have won several awards and nominations!
*** NOTE**** We have been invited to perform a medley from Newsies at the ceremony! We will be performing The World Will Know, Watch What Happens, and Seize the Day. If your Newsies cast member was in these dances, please respond ASAP if they can attend a rehearsal from 3:15-5 on Thursday, and the ceremony on Sunday (we will be called at 5pm for soundcheck). ALL performers and crew members for Newsies will get their ticket free since we won for Best Production. See the ticket info at the bottom for details.
This has been an unbelievably successful year in the NYA's, and we are honored to be recognized in our regional ceremony at Burbank. We will also be performing a medley of numbers from Newsies at the regional ceremony.
Over 700 productions spanning 17 states were submitted this year, and our students were recognized as the best in their categories. These students are evaluated and scored by judges affiliated with the NYAs, and are recognized on stage at a regional ceremony at the John Burroughs High School. Please join us on May 26 for the awards ceremonies. The award winners will be formally presented with their awards on stage and nomination certificates will be available at the registration table for the nominees.
We are SO excited for John Paul Santoyo who actually won 3 NYA titles, which gave him the distinction of Junior Artist of the Year! This year we also took three artistic awards (music direction, set design, and direction) which are not separated into a Junior Division, but evaluated along side high school and performing arts school productions. We also took the distinction of BEST PRODUCTION in the high school division since we had COHS students in Newsies who bumped us into a higher age bracket. Proud does not even begin to describe how we feel.

The American Prize - Musical Theater Division 2015
The American Prize evaluates community, university, and high school level performance groups in several arts areas. Mrs. Pedroche felt so sure that her cast of The Drowsy Chaperone could stand up to the competition that she entered her Jr. High production in the contest. The judges were incredibly impressed with the quality and talent of the production. Though first place went to a University program, and second went to a high school pay-to-perform troupe, ROMS Drama received a special judges award and third place (beating out performing arts high schools)!
